Blog Tour: Week Three (North Carolina)
January 1, 1970
Today, blogger Elaina Avalos has posted a review of The Scent of God on her fun site New Adventure . Elaina describes herself as "a writer with a fondness for Starbucks, naps, Mexican food, guys with blue eyes, fireworks, Don Henley, camping, John Donne poetry, Grey's Anatomy, What About Brian, football, a nice glass of Port and changing what's in my profile to see who notices." Connected with this event is the great interview Behind the Quill that Gather.com blogger Kevin V. did with me on writing, the writing life, and The Scent of God . Meanwhile, for those of you who are wondering about the fires up here, today is a wonderful, dark, drizzly Saturday and though it's not the heavy rain we need, we are grateful for the healing this light misting brings to an earth so parched that the grass crunches under foot. The moisture provided by this weather should help to contain the fires that are raging through the upper Gunflint and into the Boundary Waters destroying well over 120 square miles of pristine forests and homesteads. We, who live up here with an emergency bag packed for quick evacuation, are amazed at how so few people know about these fires. My sister sent me an email the other day from Georgia telling me about the dreadful Okeefenokee Swamp fire. She hadn't heard of our fires until she read my post on it. Tonight I hope to curl up with a good book and listen to Lake Superior hurl herself against our rock ledge.
